In response to the death of an Islamic cleric, Sheikh Goni Aisami Gashua, in Yobe State, the Nigerian Army has discharged two troops.

Lance Corporals John Gabriel and Adamu Gideon are two of the dismissed soldiers.

The acting commander officer in charge of 241 Reece battalion, Nguru, Yobe State, Lt Col. Ibrahim Osabo, who confirmed this to journalists, said a joint board of inquiry set up in collaboration with the police, found them guilty of murder.

He said the two soldiers were dismissed on a two-count charge. Of failure to perform duties and conduct prejudice to service discipline.

The discharged soldiers would be turned over to the Damaturu police for legal prosecution, Lt. Col. Osabo noted.

According to LIB, the preacher was assassinated by the security officials he offered a ride to at Jajimaji. Which is located less than 30 kilometers from Gashua, as he was making his way from Gashua to Kano.
