Abubakar Atiku, the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, has named Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate in the 2023 presidential election.

He made the announcement on Thursday via his social media handles.

Abubakar posted, “I am delighted to announce Governor Ifeanyi A. Okowa as my Vice Presidential candidate.

“I look forward to travelling our great country together, engaging with all Nigerians and building a shared future of peace, unity, and prosperity for all. As One We Can Get It Done. #OneNigeria.”

On Thursday, Okowa was greeted with congratulatory remarks at the PDP’s Abuja headquarters.

Okowa was at the PDP headquarters for the screening of the party’s Vice Presidential candidate.

According to the PUNCH, Okowa and two other PDP top members will be screened today as the party looks for a running mate for Atiku Abubakar, its presidential candidate.

‘Congratulations,’ several party members were heard exclaiming when Okowa entered the facility.

According to the PUNCH, Okowa is the favorite to be Atiku’s running mate.

Apart from Okowa, Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel are said to be on the shortlist.

Abubakar was announced as the PDP presidential contender for the 2023 election on Saturday, May 28.

Abubakar received 371 votes, defeating Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers, who received 237 votes, to become the party’s candidate.

ABOUT ATIKU ABUBAKAR

Abubakar was born on November 25, 1946, in Jada, Adamawa, and campaigned for Governor of the state three times, winning in 1990, 1997, and 1998. In 1999, he became former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s running mate, a position he held until 2003.

Abubakar contested for the office of the president several times, including 2014 when he ran on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and lost in the primaries to incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari.

He also run as the PDP presidential candidate in 2019 but lost to President Buhari of APC.
