The Academic Staff Union of Universities has begun a strike, and the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), has ordered Mallam Adamu Adamu, the minister of education, two weeks to find a resolution.

In a meeting with the minister and other pertinent authorities on Tuesday, the president issued the order.
Buhari called the meeting to hear an explanation from government officials about why the strike had continued for too long.

The President, after hearing from the relevant ministries and departments, ordered the Minister of Education to ensure that the impasse was resolved within two weeks and report back to him.

Apart from the directive to the education minister, the President instructed that the Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, as well as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, must be in attendance at all the meetings to speedily resolve the crisis.
