Death Toll Hits 9 From Kano Gas Explosion Not Bomb Says Police

Kano Gas Explosion Kills 9 Persons

The explosion this morning along Aba Road near Court Road in Kano’s Sabon Gari neighbourhood was caused by a gas cylinder, not a bomb, according to the Kano State Police Command.

The Command issued a statement acknowledging the explosion but stating that the explosion, which brought down a school building, was caused by gas rather than a bomb.

Recent reports confirm that the explosion has recorded nine (9) casualties so far, with an eyewitness account that they saw a suicide bomber detonate explosives.

In a short video clip distributed to journalists, state Police Commissioner Samaila Dikko reported an explosion near a nursery and primary school from a welder’s shop.

Kano Gas Explosion Kills 9 Persons

The structure collapsed as a result of the explosion, and persons were buried beneath the rubble, where four bodies were discovered.

“It wasn’t a bomb blast. It’s a gas cylinder explosion. The seller’s shop is on the ground floor of the building where the school is located.

“So, when the cylinder exploded, it brought down the building and the pupils got injured. There wasn’t a bomb blast,” the Police Commissioner stated.
