Two alleged kidnappers were saved by Delta State Police Command agents from being executed by an enraged crowd in Warri.

Residents nabbed the suspects for kidnapping a 17-year-old child, according to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Bright Edafe, who made this announcement in a statement on Sunday, August 21.

Oti Shevire and Amos, the accused, admitted to the crime during questioning and guided police to their hiding place where the victim was saved.

The PPRO said the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, has cautioned members of the public against jungle justice, warning that such an act is criminal and punishable by law.

“On 17/8/2022 at about 1345hours, Policemen attached to the Eagle-Net patrol team while on visibility and confidence building patrol along Effurun roundabout, Warri, saw a large crowd beating two boys,” the statement read.

“The Police rushed to the scene and rescued the boys from the mob. On the spot inquiry, it was discovered that they were suspected kidnappers. A woman also accused the boys of kidnapping her 17-year-old son earlier that day

“The two suspects, Oti Shevire ‘m’ aged 32years and Amos (surname unknown), upon interrogation, confessed to the crime and led the Policemen to their hideout, where the victim was rescued and is currently receiving treatment. The suspects are in custody and investigation is ongoing.

“The CP wishes to use this medium to disabuse the minds of residents in the State from jungle justice, as no one has the right to take laws into his or her hands, as anyone found culpable will face the full wrath of the law.

The CP assures Deltans that the Command is determined to reduce crime to the barest level in the State. He adjured residents to trust the process and believe in the Command as criminal arrested will go unpunished.”
