On Sunday, July 17, 2022, the Ghana Health Service declared the country to be experiencing its first-ever Marburg virus sickness outbreak.

According to a statement released by the West African country, there have been two reported fatalities and at least 98 contacts have been located and isolated.

In a statement confirming the occurrence, the World Health Organization stated that the two people who were proven to have died after contracting the Marburg virus had worked at the same facility.
