At the Okun-Ajah beach in the Lekki district of Lagos State, a cleanup effort has been organized by the FABE foundation, a group that cares for the environment.

As part of the activity, the foundation, in collaboration with another group, Cardonic, educated the neighborhood on the harm that plastic pollution causes to the ecosystem.

Temitope Okunnu, the foundation’s chief executive officer, pleaded with local residents not to litter or dump plastics in the environment.

“Our goal is to create a recycling hub in communities to encourage recycling,” Mrs. Okunnu was quoted as saying.

FABE Foundation Organises Beach Clean-Up In Lagos State

The statement further explained, “Each beach clean-up organized at FABE is directed at cleaning the beach shores and ridding them of plastics that pollute the ocean as well as sensitize the community on the impacts of plastic pollution on the environment.”

During the cleanup at Okun-Ajah beach, the foundation members and volunteers gathered 362.9kg of plastics.

FABE has conducted beach cleanup activities in over 50 communities across Nigeria, including the Lagos State Lagoon front Cleanup in Akoka, Lagos, and Beach cleanup at Magbon Alade in Lekki, Lagos.

The foundation aims to promote and create eco-conscious communities by engaging youths and everyone in the society to create sustainable eco-solutions to problems impacted by climate change affecting people’s health in the environment.
