How To Correct/Edit Siri’s Pronunciation Of Names (2022)

Apple’s digital assistant, Siri, is as smart as it is, but it still has trouble pronouncing some names. It’s typically not her fault; she pronounces words exactly as they’re written. So, if your name is Sarah and you pronounce it Sah-rah, she’ll most likely pronounce it incorrectly. You don’t have to live with Siri’s mistakes, even if you’re used to people mispronouncing your name.

If you want to correct the way Siri says your name or someone else’s in your contacts list, there’s an easy way to do it.

How To Change Siri’s Pronunciations (2022)

  1. Go to your Contacts list.
  2. Tap on the person whose name you want to change.
  3. Scroll down and tap “add field.”
  4. You can then type in the phonetic first name, last name, and so on. This is primarily for your own use. If your or a friend’s name is Bjorn, for example, you would type Be-yorn.
  5. To help Siri, tap “pronunciation spelling” for the first or last name. Use the phonetic spelling.

You can also simply say, “Change how you pronounce [insert contact’s name].” Changing the phonetic spelling for your contacts isn’t fun, but it will save you from being annoyed at Siri every time she pronounces a name incorrectly.
