Learn How To Get Google Assistant On The Galaxy Watch 4

Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 4 is one of the greatest smartwatches on the market, but it lacks Google Assistant, unlike every other Wear OS device. That has all changed now.

Samsung announced earlier this week that Google Assistant would be coming to the Galaxy Watch 4, which had previously only had Samsung’s Bixby virtual assistant since its launch last year. The good news is that it’s automatically appearing on watches without any action required – in my case, the Assistant symbol appeared at the bottom of my watch’s app list, and selecting it began the setup process.

If you don’t see Google Assistant on your wristwatch, Droid-Life suggests accessing the Play Store app listing for “Google Assistant for wearables” and selecting your watch as the target device. Much easier than the unofficial process for installing Google Assistant on Samsung’s older Tizen-powered Galaxy Watches.

Even after you set up Google Assistant, holding down the home button (the top side button with an orange outline) still opens Bixby by default. You can, however, alter this. Swipe down from the top of the watch to access the Settings app, then navigate to Advanced features > Customize keys > Home key > Press and hold. When you hold down the button, you can choose between Bixby and Google Assistant opening.

Google Assistant appears to function similarly to Assistant on other watches. You can use the app to ask inquiries, operate smart home devices, listen to music (in my instance, by launching Spotify on the connected phone), and more. You may also enable “Hey Google” listening, which will open Assistant immediately whenever you utter the phrase, but this will lower your battery life.

It’s fantastic that Assistant is finally accessible on the Watch 4, and if you prefer Bixby for any reason, you can still use it instead of Assistant, just like you can on Samsung phones.
