You can place a temporary hold on your mail by going online, calling, or going in person. There are a few rules to follow when making a hold mail request:

  • A Hold Mail request must be for a minimum of three days.
  • It can be made up to 30 days ahead of time or as soon as the following scheduled delivery day.
  • It can’t be longer than 30 days. You’ll need to sign up for a USPS Forward mail service if you need to keep mail for more than 30 days.

How to set up a Hold Mail request online (2022)

  1. Sign in to your account with USPS. You’ll need to create an account if you don’t already have one.
  2. Check to see whether your address is eligible for USPS Hold Mail. Fill out the form and click Check Availability.
  3. Fill in the dates and submit your request once you’ve received confirmation. Any request to have your mail held before 12 a.m. PT can start the following postal business day, Monday through Saturday.
