The Independent National Electoral Commission in Lagos State refuted claims on Saturday that some of its employees had been detained for allegedly setting up an unauthorized voter registration center.

Olusegun Agbaje, the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Lagos State, clarified this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria.

NAN recalls that certain media outlets had reported the arrest of three INEC officials in the state. For allegedly colluding with the St. Briggs Catholic Church in Ijeshatedo, Lagos. To open an unauthorized Continuous Voter Registration center inside the church.

Reacting, Agbaje described the news report as fake news.

“All my staff and machines are complete. No member of INEC staff was arrested anywhere in Lagos on Friday,” the REC said.

Furthermore, INEC ha on Friday, debunked the reported invasion of the same CVR center by thugs and carting away of its enrolment machines.

There had been a huge surge in most voter enrolment centers in the state ahead of the July 31 CVR deadline.
