Former TV star, Josh Duggar Sentenced To 12 Years In Prison

Josh Duggar, a former reality TV star, was sentenced to 151 months in jail, which is more than 12 years. Duggar faced up to 20 years in prison after being convicted in December on federal charges of receiving and possessing child pornography.

Prosecutors wanted the maximum penalty for Duggar, whose huge family was the subject of TLC’s reality show “19 Kids and Counting.” They said in a court petition filed before Duggar’s sentencing that he has a “deep-seated, pervasive, and violent sexual interest in children.”

Duggar, whose attorneys had requested a five-year sentence, maintains his innocence and has stated that he will appeal.

Duggar’s appeal for an acquittal or a new trial was refused by U.S. District Judge Timothy Brooks in Fayetteville, roughly 140 miles northwest of Little Rock, on Tuesday.

In April 2021, Duggar was arrested when a Little Rock police officer discovered child porn files being transferred by a computer linked to Duggar. Images showing the sexual assault of minors, including toddlers, were downloaded in 2019 onto a computer at a car dealership owned by Duggar, according to investigators.

TLC canceled “19 Kids and Counting” in 2015 following allegations that Duggar had molested four of his sisters and a babysitter years earlier. Authorities began investigating the abuse in 2006 after receiving a tip from a family friend but concluded that the statute of limitations on any possible charges had expired.

Duggar’s parents claimed he confessed and apologized for the fondling. Duggar apologized publicly for vague actions and resigned as a lobbyist for the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian organization, after the allegations resurfaced in 2015.

He openly apologized for cheating on his wife and for his pornography addiction, for which he sought treatment months later.

Prosecutors noted the violent photographs – and the ages of the children involved – as well as court testimony concerning the alleged abuse of Duggar’s sisters in requesting a 20-year term.

In its sentencing letter, federal prosecutors noted that Duggar’s past behavior “provides a worrisome window into the depth of his sexual interest in children that the Court should consider at sentence.”

“When seen in conjunction with the conduct for which he has been convicted, it is obvious that Duggar has a deep-seated, pervasive, and violent sexual interest in minors, as well as a willingness to act on that interest,” according to the court document.

According to specialists, Duggar’s computer had been partitioned to dodge accountability software that had been installed to disclose activity such as porn searches to his wife.

Prosecutors said, “There is simply no sign that Duggar will ever take the efforts necessary to change this pattern of behavior and confront his preference for underage females.”

Duggar’s counsel noted in their sentencing memorandum that he has maintained his innocence and that he wants to appeal.

His lawyers added, “Duggar accepts that he is before this Court for punishment and that this Court must impose a penalty.” “That is fairness. However, Duggar also asks the Court to use its discretion to temper justice with mercy.”
