Katsina Federal University Wins N32m International Research Grant

The National Research Foundation in Pretoria, South Africa has awarded a N32 million research grant to the Federal University in Dutsin-ma.

The NRF is an agency of the South African Government created to “contribute to National Development by supporting, promoting and advancing research and human capacity development through funding and the provision of necessary research infrastructure in order to facilitate the creation of humanities, social sciences and indigenous knowledge.”

According to a statement released in Katsina on Saturday by the FUDMA’s public relations officer, Habibu Aminu, the money was intended to be used for “Transdisciplinary Research for Pathways to Sustainability, Collaborative Research Action.”

Aminu disclosed that Muhammad Garba, the university’s director of research and development, broke the news of the research funding to the department’s directorate of public relations and protocol.

Garba assured me that the fund would be judiciously utilized for the intended purpose.

The University Vice Chancellor, Professor Armaya’u Bichi, in his reaction to the development, assured of his determination to strengthen the University to attract more grants that will boost staff and students’ capacity.

Bichi commended the University’s Directorate of Research and Development for what he described as a job well done “in not only securing the grant but putting the name of the institution in a global perspective which is in line with its vision and mission.”
