Lagos State Govt Partners With Bank To Plant 250 Trees

According to the Lagos State Government, planting 250 Queen palm trees on Victoria Island in partnership with Standard Chartered Bank will help combat climate change.

According to a statement on Thursday, this information was revealed by the general manager of the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency, Mrs. Adetoun Popoola, during a tree-planting activity on Victoria Island.

Popoola highlighted that the financial institution’s tree-planting initiative is part of its sustainability ambition to achieve environmental sustainability and a net zero carbon emission. Popoola was represented by the agency’s Head of Tree Planting and Maintenance Department, Mrs. Funto Aina.

She said, “The ‘net zero carbon emission’ campaign being propagated worldwide is essential to strike a balance between greenhouse gases emitted to the atmosphere and the greenhouse gases that are being removed. One of the simplest and cheapest ways to do this is by planting trees.

“Climate change poses a danger to the human race and ecosystem as the planet is continuously heating up from many of our daily activities, including travel and energy production which may lead to disastrous consequences if left unchecked.

“We are happy that Standard Chartered Bank identifies with what we do at LASPARK and has chosen to support our mandate to plant 250 trees and protect the environment.”

In his remarks, the bank’s Chief Executive Officer, Lamin Manjang, highlighted the need for everyone to protect the environment.

“The global warming era has been predicted long ago and it stresses the need for everyone to support the environment.” Planting of trees is one of the ways to mitigate the effect of climate change on the environment and environmental sustainability is the top priority of our organisation’s agenda,” he said.
