Between January and June of this year, a total of 218 road crashes were reported in Ondo State, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps’ Ondo Sector Command.

The corps added that 75 people lost their lives in the crashes, which included 1,428 people over the time period under examination.

According to him, no fewer than 8,399 traffic offenders were also arrested during the period under review. He, however, noted that the corps had not relented in its efforts to reduce crashes on the highways and within the state.

He said, “The 218 RTCs (Road Transport Crashes) that occurred in the state involved 356 vehicles and 75 people killed.

“A total of 567 people sustained varying degrees of injuries, while 1,345 were rescued from the crashes without injuries. This brought the number to 1,428, the total number of people involved in the RTCs between January and June.”

Adetoro added that in the period under review, available statistics showed that 1,025 males and 403 females were involved in crashes across the state, saying that the most prevalent causes of the crashes were speed limit violation, dangerous driving, and lack of concentration.

He urged the motorists and commuters always to be more careful on the roads.
