Senate Screens Acting CJN Olukayode Ariwoola

Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, Nigeria’s interim Chief Justice, is now being vetted by the Senate.

Senator Ibrahim Gobir, the Senate leader, made the motion to screen at the 11:35 a.m. session.

The screening procedure had been requested to be moved up from where it was posted on the order paper by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

Gobir proposed that the Senate suspend the applicable norms and use the Committee of the Whole to undertake the screening in order to allow the acting CJN Ariwoola and his entourage access to the chambers.

The motions were approved by the Senate.

Thereafter, the acting CJN Ariwoola and all Justices of the Supreme Court, President of the Court of Appeal, President of the Federal High Court, President of the National Industrial Court, and Secretary of the National Judicial Council, walked into the chambers and took their seats.
