On Tuesday, the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ leadership declared that it will not submit to extortion by Chris Ngige, the Minister of Labor and Employment.

During a press conference with journalists in Abuja, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, the union’s national president, said this.

On Monday, February 14, 2022, the union went on strike.

The strike entered its 155th day on Tuesday, July 19, 2022.

The president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), gave the Education Minister, Adamu Adamu, and his colleagues the order to stop the ongoing strike on Tuesday.

Speaking in Abuja, Osodeke said, “We will not be subjected to the blackmail of the minister of labor. Ngige has continued to blackmail us by churning out lies.

“They stopped our salaries thinking they will make us go back to work. Let them sit down as directed by the president.
