We Won’t Probe Former CJN -Senate Committee

According to the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters, it would not ask Tanko Muhammad, the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, to testify about the allegations made against him by 14 Supreme Court justices.

Instead, the committee would soon pay a visit to the Supreme Court, according to Fatima Jiddum, the committee clerk.

She said, “The mandate given to the committee is to look into the issue and not to investigate it. So, the committee will look into it but it will not invite the CJN. We are not probing in the real sense of it; just to find out what the issue was.”

Jiddu added, “We are going to visit the Supreme Court in order to hear from them. When we visit, we will find out from them what exactly happened to forestall future recurrence.

“We are yet to fix a date but once we do, we will invite the media so that they will be aware that we carried out our mandate.”
